A Legacy of Faith: Rt. Rev. Bishop Devprasad Ganawa, SVD
The Early Years: A Calling from Panchkui
The story of Bishop Devprasad Ganawa begins in the quiet village of Panchkui, Madhya Pradesh, where he was born on December 8, 1951. From his youth, a profound sense of service guided his path, leading him to the rigorous academic and spiritual environments of the Seminary of St. Thomas and Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth. These formative years didn't just provide an education; they forged a leader dedicated to the "Society of the Divine Word" (SVD), a missionary order known for its commitment to global service and the spread of the Gospel.
From Ordination to the Episcopacy
On October 27, 1982, Bishop Ganawa was ordained as a priest, marking the beginning of a life-long mission of pastoral care. His leadership qualities were quickly recognized by the Holy See. In May 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him as the Bishop of the Diocese of Jhabua.
His time in Jhabua was marked by a deep connection to the local community, so much so that even after being called to a new mission, he continued to serve as its Apostolic Administrator until 2015, ensuring a stable and grace-filled transition for the faithful there.
Guiding the Diocese of Udaipur
In December 2012, a new chapter began as Bishop Ganawa was appointed to lead the Roman Catholic Diocese of Udaipur. Since his installation, he has been a steadying hand for our community, navigating the spiritual needs of a diverse and growing parish with a focus on unity and compassion.
His leadership is not merely administrative; it is a living embodiment of his chosen episcopal motto:
"THE JOY OF HOPE"
A Life of Missionary Spirit
As a member of the SVD, Bishop Ganawa brings a unique missionary perspective to Udaipur. His tenure has been defined by:
Continuing the long-standing tradition of Catholic excellence in education across the region.
Bishop Ganawa remains a pillar of our community, a shepherd who leads not through authority alone, but through the infectious "Joy of Hope" that he carries into every interaction, prayer, and blessing.
