On June 10, 2025, Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral entered a new chapter of spiritual leadership as Fr. Babu Chirayath Antony assumed his role as Parish Priest. Originally hailing from the vibrant state of Kerala, Fr. Babu was born on July 16, 1963. His life of dedicated service officially began with his ordination on January 17, 1993. Since that day, he has committed himself to the spiritual uplift of the Catholic community across India and beyond.
Before arriving in Udaipur, Fr. Babu served for thirteen years as the Director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Banswara. This was a foundational period in his ministry where he was responsible for coordinating pastoral initiatives and strengthening the faith of the local community. His long tenure in Banswara allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the unique social and spiritual challenges facing the people of Rajasthan. Following his impactful work in Banswara, he continued his mission by serving as a parish priest in several key regions. His leadership has touched many lives in: Kankroli Bhilwara Chittorgarh Each of these assignments has contributed to his reputation as a compassionate guide who is deeply attuned to the needs of diverse families.
What distinguishes Fr. Babu is his rare combination of local pastoral care and international academic prestige. He is a recognized authority in New Testament Studies, serving as a Visiting Professor in major theological institutions. This role allows him to mentor future priests and scholars, ensuring that the teachings of the Church are passed down with both clarity and intellectual depth.
His academic mission is truly global in scope. While he remains a steady presence for our parishioners in Udaipur, he also travels to share his expertise at two Major Seminaries in India and even extends his teaching to a Major Seminary in Namibia. This international engagement brings a broad, global perspective to our Cathedral, enriching our Sunday homilies and our community’s understanding of the Scriptures.
As the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral, Fr. Babu Chirayath Antony remains focused on building a community rooted in prayer and mutual support. He envisions a parish where the youth are encouraged to explore their faith and where every family finds a spiritual home. Through his guidance, we continue to grow as a beacon of hope and a center of Christian life in the heart of Udaipur.
