Shepherd’s Message

Rev. Fr. Marcus Garcia

Parish Priest (2007 – 2010)

Serving as the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral was a very special and joyful period of my priestly ministry. As a young priest, I came to the parish with great enthusiasm and a desire to serve the people wholeheartedly. Those years remain very close to my heart as I remember the warmth, cooperation, and active participation of the parish community. From the very beginning, I believed that the life of a parish becomes vibrant when everyone participates actively in its spiritual and community activities. I tried to be personally involved in the various celebrations and preparations of the parish, whether it was Christmas celebrations, Easter preparations, crib making, youth gatherings, or other parish events. Working together with parishioners during these occasions created a wonderful sense of belonging and joy within the community. I also felt a special responsibility towards the youth and children of the parish. They are the future of the Church, and nurturing their faith is very important. Special attention was given to youth programs, catechism classes, and activities that encouraged young people to grow spiritually and remain closely connected to the Church. It was always encouraging to see the enthusiasm and energy of the youth participating in parish life. Another important aspect of my pastoral ministry was visiting families in their homes. Regular house visits gave me the opportunity to know the parishioners personally, pray with them, bless their homes, and share in their joys and difficulties. These visits helped strengthen the relationship between the priest and the families, and they also helped build a strong sense of unity in the parish. What impressed me most was the active participation of everyone in the parish. Young and old alike went out of their way to contribute their very best. At such moment like St Peter, I found myself praying “Lord, it is good for us to be here.” and that spirit of togetherness, I hardly realized that the time had come for me to move on to another part of the Lord’s vineyard. I cherish all those fond memories with deep love for every one and heartfelt gratitude to God who made it possible. May Our Lady of Fatima continue to guide and protect all. May the faith, enthusiasm, and unity of the people continue to grow, and may the parish always remain a vibrant centre of prayer, service, and Christian fellowship; “encourage one another and build each other up” ” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
